Last year’s winner was Layla Karpuz from Mary, Mother of Hope Junior National School, and our runners up were Ella O'Hagan from Scoil Iosagain, Co. Donegal, Vicky Enright from Salesian Secondary, Limerick and Niamh Byrne from Presentation Secondary School, Tipperary.
Layla’s doodle appeared on www.google.ie for 24 hours on Wednesday, March 9th 2011.

Stories
To me, happiness is...Reading Stories especially about sea monsters, dragons, monsters, plants and sharks. It makes me happy because I have fun and I can learn at the same time

Happiness to me is cycling my bike, playing in the playground on the swings, admiring flowers, wearing tiaras and dressing up.
A Happy Day
The doodle shows my idea of a happy day. Sunshine, riding my bicycle, showing love, eating chocolate, wearing a smiling face and having my angel watch over me

To me, happiness is....dinosaurs. I like Dinosaurs. They are my favourite thing about history. There's so much to learn
Love Google
My picture is about things that make me feel happy. In my picture you can see love hearts, curls, shamrocks, people with fancy hats, people going on a bear hunt, grass men (men disguised as grass), plants, shamrock plants for Ireland, Grannies and a caterpillar because I like searching for caterpillars, I used different colurs in my picture because it looks nice. I like my picture!
Christmas Happiness
I am happy that Baby Jesus was born. Christmas trees and candles brighten our world and bring happiness. The elves work hard to help Santa bring happiness to children everywhere. I wish everybody in the world could have happiness at Christmas and always.

To me, happiness is....playing on the farm
Colourland
To me, happiness means green garden hence my G stands for it. Two OO's represent smiley face. The second G snake fills colourfulness in my life. The L is a tree which keeps the greenery. The E is a pot of gold, shows my desire to be wealthy.
Happiness is farming & GAA
In the G is a cow eating silage. The two O's are wheels of a tractor. In the G is a football and a hurling ball and the L is a hurley. The E is a Bull. The background is a GAA pitch.
Google in the Woods
Every weekend we go to the woods for a walk. I like looking at all the animals. Sometimes I see ladybirds and bugs on leaves. I play in the woods with my dog. her name is Maggie. I like it when she barks at the rabbits. I let caterpillars wriggle on my hand. Buzz, Tiger and Granger my cats try to eat them but they spit them out.
Aliens in Space
Do we know who's out there? Does Google know?
Under Water
I love sea creatures, especially the dolphin. I would love to go swimming with all the creatures of the sea.
Busy Farming
To me happiness is working hard on a farm. I hate the bulls, I love the cows, the cows give us milk
Nature
Flamingos make me happy because they are bright. Ladybirds are good bugs. They help roses to stop caterpillars from eating them.
Swans
Look at the beautiful swans. I love to see swans in Lerrig Lough. When I see swans flying it makes me very happy. I love the sound of the flapping wings. Swans make me happy.
What peace means to me
To me happiness is peace and that's what my doodle represents
Connections
To me happiness is....X-Box, My cat, Cooking, Tea and Cake, My Birthday, Gardening, Painting and Astronomy. I love making connections. Every thing makes sense when I make connections.
In the Jungle
For my doodle, I chose animals and plants because I love wildlife. When I was half way through drawing it, I noticed that it looked like the jungle. I used all my favourite wild animals and finished it off with some flowers, leaves and trees
Circle of Friends
My picture shows that to me happiness is friendship becuase everybody needs a friend and everybody is happy when they play or talk with their friends.
Google Galway
To me happiness is....G represents Gallium (Periodic Table) and my interest is Science. "O" represents my interest in Space. "O" depicts Google Chrome, which I enjoy surfing. "G" is the books I like to read. "L" represents my love of Gardening. "E" depicts my belief that we aren't alone in space.
The Amazing Stage
To me happiness is when I am performing on stage, either Irish-dancing or playing the fiddle. It shows who I am and it makes me very happy. I love showing people what I can do. There is no point hiding a talent.
To me Happiness is....
The reason I chose to draw what I drew was because I really enjoy surfing in the deep blue seas and I love the smell of wet paint. I used the G as a wave and the girl on the surfboard is me and that's my happiness
What makes me Happy
The things that never fail to make me happy are animals. I believe I have portrayed what makes me happy in my doodle.
Doing what I love best
Happiness to me is doing the things I love best like horse-riding, helping Dad with the greyhounds or just walking through the woods watching all the wildlife and learning about different types of trees and flowers

My Life
My life is full of happiness. As you can see from my doodle, my life is full of happiness. My funky glasses, my cool ski hat, hip hop dancing, social networking, all bring happiness into my life. I'm at my happiest when I'm with my friends and wearing cool clothes.
As the sun goes Down
I picked the sunset theme as my Google picture because the sunset is beautiful in every way especially when dolphins jump high in the distance. I like the sunset as the sea blends in with the sun. I also like the water as I can see my reflection in it.
I love music
Music makes me happy. When I listen to music, I don't think about anything. I chose music, because I like singing and dancing. In the bottom of the page, I drew a radio. My favourite song is playing from the radio. On the letters "G" and "e" I drew headphones
Fairy Tale
For me happiness is like a fairytale, whenever I read fairytales I feel a sense of joy and excitement. This is what inspired me to draw this picture. I wanted to capture my feeling of joy in my drawing which is why the different symbols represent the fairytales I love.
History and Dragons
I like Greek myths and legends and mythical creatures. Sheep are one of my favourite animals. I like dragons because they are beautiful creatures and their detail is magnificent. I drew the tree because I love nature. Happiness for me is dragons.
Happy Land
Happiness is a lot of things. Everything that makes you smile and feel good inside. I love animals, reading, family and friends and loads of things that are drawn in my picture.
My Happiness
The beach is one we go to every year in Connemara. The film strip wrapped around the "G" represents watching DVD's and going to the cinema. "O" is in the buttons of the ipod, I love music. The second "O" is one of my set dancing medals. "G" is a girl holding a video controller, I played video games all the time! "L" is a pencil because I LOVE drawing. "E" shows a laughing face, I love laughing with my friends.
Cupcakes and Sweets
Cup cakes are not just buns with colourful icing and decorative designs, but cup cakes are a creation of fun, laughter, love, joy and friendship. This is why I chose them for my design.
My Field of Happiness
Happiness to me is waking up in the morning and being able to see fields of green and smelling the clean, fresh air around me. I play my guitar when I am feeling down to lift my spirits. Also singing and dancing makes me feel happy and joyful.
Magical Painting
For me happiness is painting. You feel so free and unstopabble! The messiness or neatness. It really feels like magic.
Achievement
Happiness is seeing the people about me like a family reunion, like doing well in tests and in school even if the score isn't perfect, it makes your parents happy.

I enjoyed this theme as happiness is such a broad topic so I made each letter to have a specific meaning to me. I could use my fifty word limit to explain each of the letters or let you interpret them yourself.

To me, happiness is…..Christianity. I am a Christian. Faith inspires and touches me and carries me away to a happy peaceful place.
Happiness to me is....
I drew the flowers because they symbolise happiness, followed by my home where I get plenty of love. The disco ball reminds me of listening to music and having fun. I love eating ice-cream. Art is my hobby and I used it to draw everything that represents happiness to me.
My Patch of Happiness
My happiness starts at home where I feel loved. As I walk down the road from my house where I grew up I pick up my hobbies and interests along with my friends who are always there for me. The flowers and sunrise symbolise a new morning of happiness.

The Crossroads of the World
I chose to base my doodle around the theme of New York and Times Square because I am aware that my Irish ancestors contributed to the development of New York City including Times Square.....a place where I would love to visit because for me happiness could be around every corner.
Change
To me Happiness is change. It could be a small change like buying a new C.D. or a big change like getting married. Talking with family about happy memories of the past, enjoying the present or dreaming about the future.
Movie Madness
To me, happiness is the movies. I enjoy the cinema and the entertainment it provides us, The movies are a favourite pastime of mine and I therefore chose to design a doodle concerning the cinema and movies. I wanted to include all aspects of the movies within the doodle to make it interesting, and I feel I added the ones most important to me, I wanted to add colour to my doodle also, and I believe I achieved this with the many images associated with the cinema.
Irish Dance and Music
Irish dancing and music are my two passions. It's a shame it's not enjoyed as much where I'm from compared to the west of Ireland. So my aim was to promote it through the country.

I was empowered by Google to design a Doodle 4 Google, because I realised how many things I can enjoy in Google, like for example: Holiday tickets, sports, movies, art and etc. My projection of happiness is via Google.
Doodle for Happiness
To me, happiness is....'Art'. I've always loved Art ever since making hand prints as a young child. As I got older, I learned about colours and how to paint. Now, I like to experiment in different areas of Art. My doodle represents my progression in this area.
Oval Shaped heart
To me happiness is.....Rugby. This doodle was inspired by my love of rugby and to me these players epitomise all that is great about the game.
The Spirit of Adventure
The sound of the rain under an umbrella. When you know you aren't alone; the sound of someone's heartbeat; the feel of piano keys; the sea; travelling to new places - knowing there is more to know. The complexity of absolutely everything. Where in your mind? A circle becomes a spiral, places on one's been....leaving no one out and how the weather doesn't care. I love ice cream cones!
