Flagler beach florida trip, need suggestions please!

Hello!

I have not done much surf fishing, and only have one older heavy duty short penn rod with a penn baitcaster. I have lots of bass gear tho! Lol

Looking at tak8ng a two week trip to flagler. I will have a house right on the beach so when i surf fish i will not have to drag gear a long distance.

Looking for a big surf combo, maybe two. I will be brinking my kayak so i can hit some inshore, and doing a deep sea trip at least one day.

I know its a lot to ask but what rod/reels does everyone suggest if i want to fish for big fish. I know i need to get big bait out far which is another reason i am bringing the yak.

Any tips on fishing this area, charters, rods/reels, and bait rigs is appreciated!!!!!

Thank you for your time. :)

On your beach order of preference sandfleas, clam, or shrimp. Don't need to cast out far most fish are in the surf break. Bring a lure, plenty of snook and tarpon running the beach right now. And for freshwater peacock bass are in your ditches everywhere down your way. Hopes this helps!

Not trying to highjack you here but snook season is closed and you would be damn lucky to catch one near Flagler Beach that’s the extreme north range (not to mention season is closed for harvest right now). Also peacock bass aren’t anywhere near Flagler probably at least another 150 miles south.

I thought they were asking about flager by palm beach, near the breakers.that beach is nicknamed flager beach. Your right, there is an actual city named beach up north of Daytona, my bad, good catch on your end, thanks.

The OP may be referring to that Beach. Who knows? Like I said I wasn’t trying to be rude. I didn’t even know there was a Beach called that down there. I’m sure he will be wishing he is closer to palm beach! Lol

If you’re bringing a kayak just bring your bass gear. A dedicated surf fishing setup isn’t even really necessary in my opinion. There is lots of good kayak fishing in the area. You can throw the same baits you’d use for bass and catch trout, reds, and flounder. Look for oyster bars, they’ll hold redfish for sure.

Oh, definitely. In which case, you'll need big ass tackle.

As far as rod and real what’s your preference spinning or casting? And when you mention targeting big fish I assume you’re talking shark? You could catch tarpon off the beach but I wouldn’t recommend trying to fight one in that far. You could go out on the kayak and cast into a pod of mullet being chased by a tarpons and try to hook one that way. Just remember they are catch and release. I catch legal trouts and reds in the surf all the time and I don’t cast more than 50 ft out or so. I love about 50 miles north of there and the beaches can be quite different but I would try to catch some gulf kingfish and then fillet them and use the ribs for cut bait to catch a bigger shark. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Sorry for the wall of text.
