May 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 38

1994 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Monte Carlo
Build number 161 of 200, believed to be one of only nine ‘Jewel Violet’ RHD models left in existence

Registration - M407 UHK

M.O.T. - March 2023

Odometer - 65,945

With due apology to George Orwell, ‘all Escort Cosworths are rare, but some are more rare than others’. Indeed, much more so in the case of the 200 Monte Carlo special edition cars, of which we believe only nine righthand drive examples remain in the mesmerising colour of Jewel Violet. Being one of those nine greatly adds to the desirability of ‘M407 UHK’, as does its range of carefully-selected upgrades that include: RS500 intercooler and radiator, Roose dump valve, Airtec header tank, Pipercross air filter, silicone coolant hoses, decat stainless steel exhaust system, fully Polybushed suspension with 30mm shorter springs and Koni dampers, and original-style 18 rather than 16-inch wheels shod with low profile tyres. The water pump, timing and auxiliary belts, thermostat and front rose joints have also been recently renewed. The vendor describes the Cossie as ‘solid with no rust or dents’, but volunteers the existence of a few stone chips plus some light scratches along the offside of the front bumper that have occurred during four years of storage. So far so desirable, and the only thing therefore preventing this king amongst fast Fords from making six figure money is that it was designated CAT C following accident damage in 2005. Doubtless this will deter some aficionados but, priced accordingly, it suddenly makes Cosworth ownership a realistic possibility for others for whom such cars would normally be way out of reach.

Ready for immediate enjoyment, the car currently registers an unwarranted but wholly credible 64,945 miles that’s been accrued by nine keepers, and is being sold complete with its original book pack and a selection of old invoices, tax discs and MOTs, plus one valid until March 27 next year. The specification includes sunroof, Recaro seats, air conditioning and an alarm, but currently lacks a head unit for the Ford stereo system. A truly unique opportunity for Cossie fans everywhere.

In summary:

  • · One of only nine remaining Monte Carlo examples finished in Jewel Violet
  • · Comes with a number of desirable upgrades and many new parts
  • · In generally fine condition inside and out
