Dan Shanahan says John Mullane shouldn't have apologised after the Munster SHC final.

Embarrassed by the Decies' 21-point thumping at the hands of Tipperary at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in July, Mullane made an emotional apology to travelling Waterford fans on TV.

But, speaking on an Out InFront podcast, Shanahan insists it was up to the management - and not the players - to apologise for the wretched display:

"They got it wrong on the line that day. John came out and apologised after the match for the performance; he shouldn't be doing that.

"He's never let Waterford down before. I though the management should have come out on TV and said 'We got it wrong'." Tweet
