The musical version of beloved French movie Amelie has just recast its lead ahead of its big move to Broadway.
Previously only showing on stage in California, UPI has reported that the stage adaptation of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 comedy, starring Audrey Tautou as a day-dreaming waitress, is getting a new run at the New York Walter Kerr Theatre next March.
And the title role will now be played by 26-year-old American performer Phillipa Soo, who starred in award-winning US musical Hamilton and provided the voice for Disney’s new character Moana.
Meanwhile Adam Chanler-Berat from The Good Wife will play Nino, the customer Amelie becomes obsessed with.

The adaptation, first staged in 2015, is directed by Pam MacKinnon, who has stated she is still sticking very closely to the original movie.
Meanwhile, composer Daniel Messé is the man behind the show’s tunes, as none of the original film score has been re-used.
Les Miserables star Samantha Barks took the title role when the show debuted last year in California, to rave reviews.
Fingers crossed the show will travel across the pond to the West End soon after.
Amelie will have its initial regional run at the Ahmanson Theatre in California from December 4 before making its move to the Big Apple.
