Analysis

It’s always one of the most special moments of the season, and even if the Movistar Team has had this race as the most difficult to interpret or get a good result from its very first appearance, the Telefónica-backed squad heads with excitement towards the ‘Hell of the North’ after its best Flemish campaign ever. We the Blues hope that circumstances allow us to repeat the good results from the last few weeks… ☺️

The course of the ‘Queen of the Classics’ is divided into three parts. The first one is made of the flat, uncobbled, early 96km before the first of 29 ‘secteurs pavés’, Troisvilles. The second one would be the hard selection made by the sections prior to Arenberg, the first ‘five-star’ stretch, located with 95km to go – undeniably the most legendary of all covered in the race.

The final phase is an agony over the remaining 18 sections, with two other key points: the approach towards Mons-en-Pévèle (sector 11, second *****; 49km from the finish) and the combination of Camphin-en-Pévèle (sector 5; 20 to go) with the Carrefour de l’Arbre (sector 4; 17km left), last ‘five-star’.
