Irish Continental Group plc. is a group dedicated to shipping, automobile and passenger transportation, with routes from Ireland to Continental Europe and Great Britain, in addition to managing container terminals and ship chartering, in 2022 mobilized more than 696 thousand units, almost 320 thousand containers, working 24 hours a day, with customers in the food industry, entertainment, tourism, accommodation and beverages.

It was founded in 1972 as an Irish-Scandinavian company, initially named Irish Continental Line, focused on forming a direct ferry link between Ireland to mainland Europe. It was privatized and acquired by a group of investors in 1988, listed on the Irish Stock Exchange that same year and renamed Irish Continental Group plc.

At the beginning, the group operated three vessels, the Saint Killian, the Saint Patrick II and Le Havre under the Belfast Ferries brand, which they later sold. In 1992 they extended their scope by creating short sea links through the acquisition of B&I Line, opening also container transport business, dividing then their activities into two operating lines.

The Ferries division was later renamed Irish Ferries, owns a fleet of ferries and container vessels operating in Great Britain, Ireland and Continental Europe, and the container and terminal division with modern equipment, container services, stevedoring services, located mainly in the ports of Belfast and Dublin.
