Who doesn’t like a bit of Duran Duran to kick start your Saturday morning? Junya Watanabe is back in Paris after not showing on the womenswear schedule in the city for over two years. And with him he brought a dollop of new romantic flair.
To the sounds of “Girls On Film”, out came a crimped-haired troupe of models, armoured with mohawks, colourful fringes and heavy make-up. They wore trench coats with hulking shoulders, drainpipe ripped jeans circled with strings of pearls and angsty fishnet tops. While nostalgic in theme, these pieces had immense wearability for today’s customer. Like knife-pleated oversized shirts, or racing jackets turned into pretty A-line frocks. As far as comebacks go, this was pretty spectacular.
