Rincewind the Demon?
Rincewind isn't dead, even though we last saw him disappear into the Dungeon Dimensions? If this is surprising to you, then you haven't been reading very closely. In this, the fourth book in the Wizards storyline in Terry Pratchett's Discworld (see my guide for suggested reading order amongst the various plotlines), Rincewind returns to the prime material plane after being summoned by a rather unusual demonologist (with help from his elderly parrot). Angered by the coincidental intrusions into his plans this event caused, the king of all demons attempts to hunt Rincewind down and return him to hell (picture a cross between working at the company in "Office Space" and staying with your retired parents in a Florida retirement home for eternity, and you'll just about grasp Terry ... Rincewind isn't dead, even though we last saw him disappear into the Dungeon Dimensions? If this is surprising to you, then you haven't been reading very closely. This is another classic Discworld novel, oozing with sarcasm, thinly veiled social commentary, and an upside-down take on just about everything. If you've read the series up to this point, you won't be disappointed in this little Discworld detour that takes you from the beginning of time to the end of eternity (which, it being eternity and all, is only a beginning); from the halls of Troy, where an aging, overweight Helen awaits deliverance - maybe - to the ancient Aztec empire, where Luggage is destined to challenge their God, Quetzovercoatl, for primacy; to the sprawling city of Ankh-Morpork, where it all began. Like the other books in this series, I highly recommend Eric. It's funny, fast-paced, and an altogether interesting distraction from the real world.
