Losing weight fast is something that many people sometimes wish for - especially in January. With the Christmas season often packed with tempting treats, it can be easy to pile on the pounds. And, whether it’s for an upcoming event or simply to get back to the figure in which you feel your best, diet plans which promise to deliver quick results may be exactly what slimmers need. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall knows this all too well - so how did he shed eight pounds within one week back in January 2013?

The celebrity chef, who presents the BBC show Britain’s Fat Fight: The Battle, spoke about getting trim in the past.

And, it seems that he has credited intermittent fasting for helping him to shift the fat.

The 53-year-old followed the 5:2 diet, which is also known as the Fast Diet.

The method sees slimmers eat a relatively healthy diet for five days per week.

And, for two non-consecutive days each week, dieters must dramatically decrease their food intake.

On these particular days, slimmers can eat just 25 per cent of their usual calorie total - which should work out at around 500 calories per day for women, and 600 calories for men.

I consumed way too much meat, cheese, cream, sugar and alcohol

According to BBC Good Food, there are no restrictions on what you can eat while following this diet plan.

Ahead of trying a new diet plan, it is recommended that you seek expert advice, such as consulting your GP first.

Back in 2013, Hugh revealed that he felt he had to take action, after he piled on the pounds during the Christmas period just a month earlier.

Reflecting on how he had been unable to resist sweat treats, he told The Guardian readers: “At the turn of the year, like so many, I consumed way too much meat, cheese, cream, sugar and alcohol.

“And despite a garden bursting with brussel sprouts, kale and winter salads, and a weekly delivery of organic apples, oranges, clementines and bananas, I know I didn’t eat nearly enough fruit and veg to offset the gluttony.”

Writing for the publication, the star went on to reveal that he had already lost eight pounds, adding that he felt he could be “part of a health revolution”.

However, at the time, Hugh questioned whether he would continue the 5:2 diet into the future.

Tom Kerridge is another celebrity chef who has lost weight.

The 45-year-old slimmed by an incredible 12 stone, after overhauling his diet and fitness regime.

The father-of-one followed the lesser-known dopamine diet, as well as stopping drinking alcohol and going swimming.

Britain's Fat Fight with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall continues tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
