This project was completed as part of multiple projects across the airport to aid capacity requirements due to increased passenger’s numbers and future growth.
The project scope included a new build extension at Pier 4 Dublin Airport extending over 3 storeys. There was the construction of a new elevated walkway within Pier 4 while minimising impact to the daily operation of the Pier and CBP Operations. The walkway acted as a link between buildings and was glazed on both sides. Due to the location of the building there was high sound installation installed to meet the very strict building acoustic requirement. There was the provision of new bus injection point and new vertical circulation core from the apron level 10 to the arrivals level 20 of Terminal 2. This project delivered segregation at source of ‘Third State’ transfer passengers from ‘First State’ transfer passengers at arrivals level with a new ‘Third State’ corridor over existing voids. The works also included the provision of a new vertical circulation core link for transfer passengers from stands 408, 409 & 410.
There was a number of high-end retail fit-outs carried out throughout the building. New toilets were installed along with new changing rooms. Lounge areas were installed with fitted furniture. External works included new tarmacadam and drainage systems to bring the structure up to international airport standard. New floors were installed throughout and also new ceiling tiles. Specialist lighting was required and a complete upgrade of the existing M&E services. All services needed to remain live a this was a live operating airport. Careful tie ins and coordination was required in this mission critical operation.
The works were carried out in a busy live working airport and airside environment, where personnel and vehicular access was subject to significant security restrictions. The airport operations took precedence at all times. Airside and BSAT Training was required for all operatives. There were significant risks on site of damaging existing services, all of which were managed by our team in a manner that ensured the smooth running of the project. Weekly site meetings were conducted to coordinate all stakeholders and to manage project specific design hazards.
