Daphne Guinness Is Getting Her Own Exhibition At The FIT Museum This Fall!

Other than the highly fictional Carrie Bradshaw, there may not be another person on the planet as fashion-obsessed as the muse/heiress/designer/stylist/gal-about-town Daphne Guinness. And fashion loves her right back, as a new exhibit opening at the Museum at F.I.T. this fall will prove.

As far as style credentials go, nobody's got a more stacked resume than Daphne: She was BFFs with Alexander McQueen, has inspired everyone from Valentino to Karl Lagerfeld, made a performance out of getting dressed for the Met Gala in the Barneys windows, bought Isabella Blow's entire wardrobe instead of letting it go to auction, has been credited with single-handedly keeping the couture industry alive, and was once referred to--by Tom Ford!--as the most stylish woman alive. She's something of a walking work of art, and the new exhibit at the Museum of F.I.T. will give her the same treatment as Picasso.

According to a press release, the exhibition--running September 16, 2011 to January 7, 2012--will feature "approximately 100 garments and accessories from Guinness's personal collection, plus films, videos, and images of and by her." We'll also get a chance to see "more than two dozen McQueen garments that have never been displayed," and "extraordinary haute couture from Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Lacroix, and Valentino, as well as demi-couture by Azzedine Alaïa, Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana, and Rick Owens, and futuristic styles by young designers such as Gareth Pugh." The museum's statement goes on to define the crux of the exhibit: "Daphne Guinness will reveal how Guinness, who is not only a serious collector of couture but also a creative force in her own right, uses fashion to transform herself. As her friend, art historian, John Richardson, puts it: 'She's the object of her own creativity. Her persona is her own masterpiece.'"

Consider us officially beyond excited! Find out more at the F.I.T. website, then tell us...are you as in awe of Daphne Guinness as we are? What do you think of her wardrobe? Do you think she deserves her own museum exhibition? Discuss!
