New Cork football boss Ronan McCarthy says he's unsure whether or not veteran forward Donncha O'Connor will be committing to the Rebels for another season.

The 36-year-old, who was a focal part of his county's 2010 All-Ireland SFC triumph, is taking "an extended break" according to McCarthy and it remains unclear whether or not he'll return for a 13th season with the Leesiders.

"Donncha O'Connor is taking an extended break at the moment, and he won't be making a decision about next year until sometime in the future," McCarthy told the Evening Echo.

On injury concerns in the camp ahead of the Year, he added: "James Loughrey is definitely out of the first league game as he won't have sufficiently recovered from an ankle injury

"But there's a chance that Brian O'Driscoll might be ready for the opening game as he is making good progress from an operation on his shoulder which went very successfully."
