Paul Galvin has jokingly told Noel O'Leary to retire after the Cork stalwart finally got his hands on an All-Ireland medal last Sunday week.

Kerry workhorse Galvin and O'Leary are huge rivals on the pitch and have been involved in numerous spats over the years, but a congratulatory text sent by Galvin after Cork's Sam Maguire victory over Down would appear to have improved relations between the two.

The text read something along the lines of: "Congrats - now would you please retire and leave me alone".

A Cork source told The Irish Examiner: "The text went down very well. It wasn't your usual stuff which would have been difficult to take at face value anyway - Galvin's message came with a twist, an edge, which was typical of him. But I'd say it was appreciated." Tweet
