TV presenter Timmy Mallett graced an East Yorkshire chippy with his presence on Saturday – bringing cheer after a particularly tough week for the business.

Newton's Traditional Fish and Chips in Patrington were a pan down while they awaited the delivery of a chip pan from The Netherlands that eventually arrived on Saturday. Timmy Mallett popped in for his tea on Saturday evening after another day on his latest cycling challenge.

In a post on social media, Newton's revealed the surprise guest and thanked customers for their patience earlier this week when waiting times were longer due to the out-of-action pan. they wrote: "'Utterly Brilliant' Timmy Mallett popped in for his tea tonight. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and patience this week especially, what a way to end our working week."

"Big shout out for the one and only TIMMY MALLET!" was the enthusiastic reaction of one social media user to his appearance at the chippy. "Such a trailblazer for living life! I missed him here in Scarborough but his spirit is everywhere." "Word travels how good your food is," another Newton's customer said.

The TV presenter started out in radio before achieving fame as a children's TV presenter with the Wide Awake Club and then Timmy Towers, becoming known for his loud glasses, colourful shirts, and a giant pink foamed mallet, known as Mallett's Mallet. In 2008, he was a contestant on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! More recently, he has devoted more time to advocating for the joys of two wheels as the Cycling Artist.

Four months ago, he set off from Paddington on his latest cycling adventure, aiming to travel the coastline of Britain. He has covered the Hull to Holderness leg in the last week, and popped into Newton's fish and chip shop after a day's cycling.
