Gardaí are investigating vile threats made against Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan and his six-year-old daughter.

The Independent MEP revealed he received a barrage of abusive messages on his TikTok account on Wednesday night. Among the menacing posts received was a chilling threat to his youngest child.

As a result, gardaí in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, where Mr Flanagan lives with his wife and three daughters, have advised the veteran politician to install security measures at his home.

Posting on his Twitter account Mr Flanagan said the situation made it “impossible to do one’s job”.

“I’ve just left Castlerea Garda Station after reporting threats on my TikTok account towards my 6-year-old daughter.

“We’ve been advised by the Gardaí to get security for our house This is so wrong. It’s impossible to do one’s job in this situation,” he said.

The messages were sent to Mr Flanagan’s TikTok account from an anonymous account.

The sender claimed to know where Mr Flanagan lives and made a direct threat against his six-year-old daughter.

Mr Flanagan posted screenshots of the messages and said he hopes gardaí will be able to track down the IP address of the sender.

Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, Mr Flanagan said his family were taking the threats seriously.

“Gardaí have advised me to get security for the house. We’ve had to tell our neighbours as this person said in the message that they know where I live.”

He said they collected his daughter from school early yesterday.

“We’re taking this very seriously, it’s our daughter’s safety we’re talking about, we have to,” he said.

Mr Flanagan did not respond to the messages but he has his suspicions about the identity of the sender and has passed this information on to Gardaí.

“In the past six months, I have had four threats, three through social media. One was an attack on my home, which I reported to gardaí.

“But never before have my family been brought into this.”
