A stunning series of three images of the natural beauty of the lake and mountains near Killarney on the Ring of Kerry SW Ireland. All three images were taken shortly after sunrise in November 2013 from the shore of Lough Leane looking towards the mountains known as McGillicuddy's Reeks. The low level of the sun emphasises the rich autumn colours in the lowlands at lake level with the full dramatic peat covered slopes and the towering bare faced rock of the mountains above. This much visited but unspoilt part of South Western Ireland is arguably the most scenic of the whole Republic and these three images perfectly illustrate the glorious scenery of this most North Westerly reach of Europe. This second image is looking east from the shore of Lough Leane towards the high peaks in the middle of the Ring of Kerry, with the snow-capped mountain known as Carrauntoohil in the heart of McGillicuddy's Reeks at the top centre of the image. This is the highest peak in the Republic of Ireland rising to 1038 Metres or 3407 feet. and it towers over Killarney, acting as a shield or guard to its peoples.
