The fastest way to our campsite in Pembrokeshire from our home was via the A40, along the skirt hem of the Brecon Beacons.
A pleasant route, to be sure… but as we left I decided I wanted fish and chips by the seaside for lunch.
So we added an extra hour onto the journey and pottered across Wales to Aberystwyth, then along the north coast.
I had a destination in mind — Little Haven — but how I got there was more important, especially because
DOLPHINS!
We got super lucky and saw a pod of dolphins leaping while we were defending our chips from the seagulls! That never would have happened if we’d kept our eyes on the destination.
Next time you’re writing something, give yourself a chance to see dolphins.
Have a destination in mind, for sure — but focus on the work.
Focus on creating, because when we keep our eyes glued to the end result, we can lose our capacity for joy, for discovery, for FUN.
You’ll still end up more or less at your destination, but how you get there will change.
And maybe you’ll end up somewhere you never expected.
