Many modern airport terminals are designed and constructed to meet green building standards such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. That means that these terminals incorportate energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials and environmentally-friendly design principles to reduce their environmental footprint. 2.) Some airport terminals incorporate green roof systems featuring vegetation and greenery. This provides insulation, improves air quality, reduces storm water runoff and more. Green roofs also create homes for wildlife and enhances the overall sustainability of terminal buildings. 3.) Airport terminals are designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation wherever possible. This reduces the need for artificial lighting and mechanical ventilation systems. Skylights, atriums and large windows not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of terminals, they also contribute to energy savings and occupant comfort.
