Advantages and Disadvantages

There are advantages and disadvantages to library eBooks in comparison to print format books, depending on your personal preferences; your accessibility to the library building; your accessibility to the internet, computers and mobile readers; the type of books you require; and your academic needs (why you need the book).

And, unlike on Kindle (for example), it is still quite a lot more expensive for libraries to buy one-off eBooks (such as core module texts) for your course - so we are still building up a full collection.

One thing to be aware of is this: Libraries can offer most but not all the kinds of services that you can get when you purchase and download your own personal eBook to your reader devices. We do not yet allow permanent full text downloads to your devices for you to keep (though that might be possible in the future).

However, our eBooks can be read online using Internet Browsers on any computer or mobile device, at any time - so they do have great flexibility and ease of access. You can also interact with these, write your own notes, make your own highlights, copy and print from them (within copyright restrictions) and also download for a period of time.
