Audi A6 C5 Boost Pressure Sensor Replacement

  • Parts Required: Boost Pressure Sensor
  • Performance Gain: Better running engine
  • Complementary Modification: Replace intake boot

The boost pressure sensor is used to determine the pressure inside the intake manifold and send a signal to the vehicle's ECU.

Over time, the boost pressure sensor can begin to fail, resulting in drivability issues. Replacing the sensor is relatively easy and should take no more than a few hours.

You'll also want to inspect the rubber intake boot the sensor seats inside. It's common for cracks to develop over time. Accessing the sensor requires you to remove the engine cover. See our article on Engine Cover Removal for more information.

Figure 3 On our project car, the BPS was secured to the rubber intake boot with a generic hose clamp (green arrow). Loosen or cut the hose clamp (where applicable) and pull the BPS out of the intake boot. Be sure to grab the threaded backing plate (purple arrows) under the BPS. At this point, you should inspect the intake boot for any cracks or rips. Replace the boot if you come across this. See our article on Throttle Body Cleaning for more information.

Figure 4 And here's the finished result with the BPS removed from the engine. Installing the new BPS is the reverse order of removal. Be sure to replace or reuse the hose clamp securing the BPS in place.
