Lucinda Creighton, TD for Dublin South East, has been explaining her new political group Reform Alliance.
She confirmed that there are seven politicians in the group but she said it is not a political party and she said she is not the leader of the alliance.
Ms Creighton lost the Fine Gael party whip in July when she voted against the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill and also resigned as Minister for State for European Affairs.
Speaking on RTÉ's The Late Late Show, the former minister said she has no ambitions to be Taoiseach.
She said she will be running in the next election but she said she did not know which party she would be part of.
Speaking about how she lost the party whip, she said she was "a bit surprised" when Taoiseach Enda Kenny immediately asked for her resignation after the Dáil vote on the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill.
She said she was "sad" about having to leave the parliamentary party but she made the decision to vote against the bill as it was a fundamental issue of "life and death".
She said that politicians are "expected to be nodding dogs" most of the time and not encouraged to have opinions.
