The Chanel show is one of the biggest spectacles of Paris Fashion Week, not to mention one of its hottest tickets. Every season, the French label’s collections are often the largest, the sets the most extravagant, and the front rows filled with A-listers. The many magical years spearheaded by the late Karl Lagerfeld have clearly fueled a strong celebrity appetite for the brand. Today, the buzzy crowd returned once again, this time to take in creative director Virginie Viard’s fall 2020 presentation. VIPs included Janelle Monae and Maggie Rogers. But all eyes were on French musician Sébastien Tellier, who attended with his wife, Amandine de La Richardière.

Easily the most stylish guy in the room, Tellier proved that an elegant Chanel tweed can look just as good on a man. He slipped on a white and cream tweed jacket that had signature Chanel detailing: four front pockets, large gold buttons, and metallic threading. He essentially made the case for the tweed jacket being a universal piece—one that could easily look good on both an uptown grandma and a downtown skater boy. Tellier leaned into the unexpected latter category, pairing his jacket with jeans and white loafers for a cooler finish. He also wore a pearl-embellished cap, monogrammed with his initials, and giant shield sunglasses—two cheeky accessories you wouldn’t typically see paired with a jacket that costs more than most mortgage payments. But it worked, even with that scraggly beard.

This isn’t the first time Tellier has stolen the show at Chanel. For the past few seasons, he and de La Richardière have been stylish fixtures on the label’s front row. At the Couture show in January, he wore a denim shirt with a pastel print of leaves on it (he wore the pearl cap there, too). At the spring 2020 show in October, he went more classic in a white blazer and jeans—his go-to pant—while his wife wore a checkered tweed top with denim as well. But this season showed Tellier is slowly becoming a true Chanel man, embracing what the fashion house is known for and then making it work for his own personal style. Maybe next season he will even wear a full tweed suit from head to toe.
