Odds have been cut on Charlie Austin returning to Queens Park Rangers this summer.

The Southampton striker left Loftus Road in January 2016 for £4 million, and had registered 10 goals in 26 games for his new employers before injury struck last December.

However, the Saints have since recruited Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini and will reportedly part ways with manager Claude Puel this summer, which could leave Austin’s future in doubt.

According to Sky Bet‘s latest odds, the 27-year-old is most likely to sign for Bournemouth [6/1] if he does leave St Mary’s this summer, but QPR [8/1] have leapfrogged Newcastle United [10/1] to become surprise second favourites.

Nevertheless, a move to west London is perhaps unlikely, with the R’s having trimmed their budget significantly since Austin’s departure 18 months ago, leaving current boss Ian Holloway with little to play with this summer.

And the Southampton number 10 will perhaps consider himself to be an established Premier League striker now, having scored 25 goals in 57 games at that level.
