Woman in her 80s hospitalised after serious assault at nursing home
Gardaí arrested a man in his 50s at the scene.
A woman in her 80s was hospitalised after a serious assault in a nursing home in Westmeath on Monday evening.
Gardaí have arrested a man in his 50s over the incident, which took place at a care home in Athlone.
Following the assault, the woman was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore for treatment.
Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The man, who was arrested at the scene, has since been charged.
He will appear before Athlone District Court on Wednesday morning.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
