Locals are blaming a freak electrical storm for killing hundreds of fish, a dolphin and a seagull in Cornwall.

They are convinced a lightning strike during Storm Dylan caused the creatures to wash up on Marazion beach, near Penzance.

Cornwall and Devon were hit by thunderstorms, hail and 70mph winds early yesterday.

The weather was so bad that trees were brought down.

Roads and supermarket car parks were also closed as a precaution.

‘It’s a sad sight,’ said local Helen Kavanagh.

‘Quite a few people were wandering around, wondering what was happening. Sad to see really. Never nice.

‘It’s right by the Marazion car park.’

The dead animals were slowly being taken away in bags today.

It’s not the first time dead fish have mysteriously washed up in the area.

On December, 18, 2016, tens of thousands of dead mackerel randomly appeared.

Locals suggested the fish may have been dumped by trawler fleets who were worried about contravening European quotas on fishing.

They think the latest incident is something different because other sea creatures were found dead as well.
