An incident in the Jack Lynch Tunnel caused major traffic problems for commuters in Cork this morning.

Gardaí attended the scene in the westbound bore of the tunnel following a collision between a car and a lorry.

Fire crews from Ballvolane and Anglesea Street were also at the scene and advised motorists to avoid the area where possible.

The incident occurred at around 7.50am and both lanes were opened shortly before 11am.

Drivers encountered delays of over half an hour while emergency services were on the scene.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the collision.

Meanwhile, traffic delays in Dublin are expected to continue into the evening after a crash and road closure on the M50.

It happened near the junction for Blanchardstown on the northbound side of the motorway.

The emergency services have shut part of the road near the Lucan exit - it's been closed since around 11 o'clock this morning.

Gardaí have warned drivers to expect delays, which are already affecting the city and parts of west Dublin.

Dublin Airport has urged anyone travelling today to plan their route and check for Garda updates.
