Cork have altered six of the team that began last Sunday’s defeat to Waterford for their Munster SHC Round 2 game against Clare on Sunday.
Niall O’Leary, Eoin Downey, Tim O’Mahony, Ethan Twomey, Declan Dalton and Brian Hayes are introduced for the clash in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh at the expense of Ger Millerick, Damien Cahalane, Mark Coleman, Tommy O’Connell, Seán Twomey and Conor Lehane.
Dalton was unavailable for the game in Walsh Park as he recovered from a hamstring injury but is drafted in along with the other five who were on the bench in Walsh Park where two of them, Eoin Downey and Hayes, saw action.
The sextet announced to be dropped are included among the substitutes. Shane Kingston returns to the squad after missing out on the Waterford game with a hamstring tear. Moving out of the panel are Brian Roche and Eoin Carey.
The named team features nine of the side that were narrowly beaten by Clare in Ennis last May - Patrick Collins, O’Leary, captain Seán O’Donoghue, Ciarán Joyce, Robert Downey, Dalton, Darragh Fitzgibbon, Seamus Harnedy and Patrick Horgan.
Meanwhile, 10 of the Tipperary team that started last month’s Division 1 semi-final loss to Clare are set to start Sunday’s Munster SHC Round 2 game against Limerick.
Dan McCormack, Robert Byrne, Conor and Darragh Stakelum and Patrick Maher are replaced by Johnny Ryan, Eoghan Connolly, Alan Tynan, Mark Kehoe and Seán Hayes.
Connolly is fit to join Willie Connors in midfield after suffering an elbow injury against Antrim last month. John and Noel McGrath are among the substitutes along with fellow veterans Patrick Maher and Dan McCormack but Morgan, Cathal Barrett and Conor Stakelum are not in the squad.
Of the team that began last year’s provincial round-robin draw against Limerick, there are only eight survivors – Ronan Maher, Michael Breen, Bryan O’Mara, Connolly, Alan Tynan, Jake Morris, Gearóid O’Connor and Mark Kehoe.
Elsewhere, Galway captain Conor Whelan returns to the team to face Kilkenny in Sunday’s Leinster SHC Round 2 game in Pearse Stadium. He is one of four changes – Adrian Tuohey, Donal O’Shea, John Cooney and Declan O’Loughlin make way for him, Cianan Fahy, David Burke and Brian Concannon. Johnny Glynn is named among the substitutes.
For Kilkenny, injuries rule out Eoin Cody, Eoin Murphy and Adrian Mullen. In come Aidan Tallis, Billy Ryan and Owen Wall.
