Good website, good customer support

Overall have had many good experienced with Airbnb. I don't like their review system, as I think it skews towards positive ratings for their hosts, but other than that it's a good company. The site is ux-friendly, booking is easy and clear; and in the few instances where I needed customer support, it all went well. The first line customer support isn't always great but the second line comes through. Special shoutout to Airbnb Ambassador Mario, who really went beyond my expectations when a recent Airbnb booking went awry and I incurred high external costs.
I will say the service fees are getting a bit ridiculously high.

Possible to force Airbnb and host to be correct

Within a few hours after my review has been posted, I received a message from Airbnb that the full €79,50 was going to be refund.
Today, Aplil 30th 2024 in the early afternoon, the money was back on my creditcard account.
Thanks for your help.
The next steps for me are: look how to introduce a claim with the relevant authorities at the European Union.
Then analizę how to start a class action against Airbnb

infested with bugs!

I booked a villa in Spain for 4 weeks. When I arrived there the conditions of the villa was not great and I contacted the owner to do some adjustments. from there my problem started as I got some weird rash in my body. long story short after long investigation it turns out that, I bring with me Carpet beetles at home (they are some sort of bugs) and my home is infested with them now and my whole body is covered in rash from them. this has never been in my worst nightmares ! Plus it's super hard to get rid of them. So I will never book Airbnb again. at least hotels have some regular checkups and responsibility towards customers.

Steer clear!!

Don't use AirBnB if you want to guarantee that your holiday is all sorted in advance! I have had two apartments cancelled on me. The first one after booking 7 months in advance and then all of a sudden it cancelled. I booked again, all confirmed and then after a month cancelled again!! Now due to a busy period everything fully booked. I will not waste my time with this lot again!!

Charged for damages to furniture already faulty

My son spent an evening sitting in an old faux leather chair and to our surprise, when he got up, the finish had disintegrated like tissue paper, peeled beneath his rear end and fell to the floor. Despite my having explained to the host what had happened days before checking out, she decided to gouge me for payment. Airbnb decided to side with the host, demanding $400CAD for a chair worth about $150 new at Walmart. They’ve threatened to charge my card, which I’m unable to remove, and I’ve threatened to take them to court if they do, insisting that furniture, at the very least, should be able to be used as intended without it falling to pieces. I am unable to leave a poor review on the host site without running the risk of them giving me the same. This makes me question the validity of reviews in general. The whole ordeal has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will never book through Airbnb again.

Blink camera was installed inside the…

Blink camera was installed inside the property, with a note saying it was recording images. This violates air bnb policy, but because the host had noted (incorrectly, as they listed under 'exterior camera') the camera on their listing, air bnb kept closing my case. They even quoted their own policy at me, which proved they were in the wrong. Total invasion of privacy, but what's worse is that air bnb didn't even listen to me, just closed the case multiple times. A joke to have policies you don't follow, and do nothing about when violated.

Host suddenly requested deposit, Airbnb DONT CARE

The host manager suddenly asked for a cash deposit when we just arrived. This was not stated anywhere in the listing. When we refused, the manager became agressive and being very rude claiming they have lawyer bla bla bla.
I was not interested in staying with them anymore as it's not as described in listing and the service super poor. So I opened a case with Aribnb who kept closing it and not letting me to cancel the stay for a refund. Worst holiday ever.
Airbnb only cares the monies but not their policy Or srvice provided by the hosts!

I'd now only book through hotels or resorts who would actually provide a genuine customer service than those host who are hostile to guests, worrying guests going to break or take away their 'assest' in the property. It only makes guests' stay very uncomfortable and ruining our holiday.
For hosts who can't afford the risk to let out the property, just don't then.

(BTW, At the last day of the stay, the host 'transferred' us our deposit, and sent us a screenshot and claimed the money will be back to our bank in the next few days. Waited for a week and nothing appeared, so I chased him Daily until he actually made the transfer. FULL OF SCAMMERS on airbnb!!)

Horrible service for hosts !!

Horrible service for hosts !!! Within about 2 month pay-out not send! Airbnb not send $3900 of past reservations.
I calling 2-3 times per week for nothing .Every time hey apologize for inconveniences and send messages to other department.Today I received message that they apologize again and started investigation on engineering department but cant even tel me when they will send money .Probably Airbnb get to bankruptcy???

Please do not use Airbnb if you're…

Please do not use Airbnb if you're planning to travel next month or later. Because if you get sick or the plane delay or you change your mind...

the house owners will keep half of your money.

Just get a hotel or condo or use Airbnb when you're there at your destination.

Verification an absolute nightmare

I am a new user to Airbnb but I am unable to become a verified user and can't therefore make a booking.

As someone who does not drive and therefore does not have a driving licence and as someone whose passport has expired I am unable to get verification. There is no other way to become verified ir would seem.

I am cross that when trying to find a way to become verified Airbnb chat does not listen to the fact that I am in the UK and therefore do not have an identity card or biometric ID.

I feel I am being discriminated against for not being a driver or an overseas traveller. They are unwilling to help me become verified by providing other of ID eg bank details, bills, taxation details etc

Very inflexible !

Airbnb Site is Horrible

The Airbnb site is a horrible user experience. Below are only a few examples.
- Relevant rental properties don't always show up (I assume based on their own biased algorithm)
- Locations are incorrectly stated and not within their stated radius.
- Filters are misleading - "Beachfront" does not mean beach/water front.
- Filters are not user friendly - I don't want to see pages of 8 bedroom houses when searching for 2 people.
I assume they make it so difficult to funnel customers to their advantage. Can someone please come along and do it better.

allow scammers and not helpful

I am in Costa rica for vacation I rented a room after check in I found that no electricity and water most of the time. I asked Airbnb for a refund but they are not helpful at all and ignored my request. Next rent was a scam host, it was not even room was a camps I couldn’t sleep because the noise and very dirty, the issue Airbnb allow the hosts to re-listing again so the host keep removing the listing after bad reviews. Totally scam! We should try something else than airbnb! They stand with hostess!!! Adam

ABNB Tax Fraud

ABNB is complicit in allowing hosts in Carrollton, Texas commit tax fraud by charging $10 per night, then adding $50 PER NIGHT in taxes instead of .60 cents (6% state STR tax rate). ABNB fails to disclose the actually conditions of this rental by allowing these hosts to create multiple hosts accounts everytime they get a bad review, while also allowing hosts to have the guests or fake accounts do 40 plus fake 5 star reviews. ABNB also allows these hosts to create fake hosts names for their listing so you really do not know the identity of these hosts. Not sure if I can share the link but search listings inder $15 in Carrollton, Texas to see over 30 listing of the same place with different hosts accounts and names for the same listings. These listings were discovered last summer and reported to ABNB numerous times since but ABNB does nothing to stop hundreds of guests being deceived.

It is impossible to correct an unfair…

It is impossible to correct an unfair review on Airbnb. I have written to them to challenge a hosts review but they have simply not replied. Fortunately there are now competing services like Vrbo which I can switch to since they don't seem to value me as a customer

You cannot rely on Airbnb reviews - stick to other boking sires!

We recently had an awful experience with a property booked through Airbnb. In hindsight the hosts company IStay Liverpool are clearly running a scam offering properties they have no control then moving you on the day of the booking based on spurious grounds. There are numerous reviews to this effect but the way the Airbnb review system works no one can place a review to this effect unless the host allows it? What sort of review system is that - complete joke!

Unaware that I had to be over 18 to…

Unaware that I had to be over 18 to make am airbnb account, I made a reservation. Airbnb charged me then deleted my account despite being under-age and unable to make a reservation.. how does that work?? Then a refund is issued in 15 days!!! That's half a month. What is this?. Don't charge me in the first place

Run quickly and get a hotel instead

My recent stay looked nothing like the photos. It was major trickery and the room wasn't even the same size, bedding, or room. There were old rough sheets on the beds. Not what I paid for. I shared photos with Airbnb and was told I could get a refund and leave. So I booked a hotel and left the next day. Airbnb didn't keep their word. They said they had to support the host who didn't want to give a refund. Thank goodness my credit card company saw the photos and communication with Airbnb and refunded me

Too big to care

1. I accept a reservation from an Airbnb member (since 2021) with no bookings - a red flag, I know
2. I get an email [redacted] from Airbnb saying, "The attempt to charge your guest, XXXX, for the amount due for reservation XXXXXX from XXX - XXX was unsuccessful... If you prefer to cancel the reservation, you can cancel penalty-free .."
3. I waited a couple of days, heard nothing from Airbnb or the guest
4. I emailed the guest and said I was going to cancel unless I heard back from them or Airbnb imminently
5. I heard nothing so I cancelled the reservation
6. I started to receive distressed messages from the guest saying they had received messages saying the deposit they had paid would be returned in 10-15 days!
7. I have received no notification from Airbnb that the issue had been resolved
8. I call Airbnb at 2:09am and was told that the customer payment was taken AFTER I had cancelled the reservation!
9. I try and assure the very distraught customer that I would try and sort things out (meanwhile I have to block my Calendar again)
10. Nothing from Airbnb, so I call again at 2:35am. I've told that the supervisor is "on a call" and will call me after it's finished
11. Nothing
12. I call back at 2:35am and after raging (all calls recorded we are told) and assured that someone WILL call me back
13. No one calls me
14. So I call them at 2:54am, I get a different agent who lectures me about professionalism - the irony coming from an Airbnb call centre where you can barely hear the agent for background noise is a moment of light-relief - I genuinely laugh out lous
15. I'm promised I'm being transferred to a specialist.. guess what, nah!
16. The specialist turns out to be another frontline infantry soldier. I say I want to make a compaint, and he says he'll send me a link

I won't rant about why I stopped using this useless company 4 years ago, I'll just caution anyone caught up in the glamour of the brand to remember that everything that glitters ISN'T gold!

Airbnb needs to be subjected to the discipline of the market - they are lazy, fat, monopolists and their service is what you'd expect from a public service department - absolutely hopeless

Company Reviews are a complete fix

Writing on behalf of my other half, as he’s too nice to rate Airbnb.
It seems like it’s a complete fix. They like to keep their Hosts looking like they are 5 Star, by either removing the lesser ratings or by hiding them. Please look at the number of reviews against counted/actual shown ones. Invariably the reviews do not add up.
