The best week of the year?

There’s a new festival coming this November, with the goal of raising awareness of one of Ireland’s greatest products – Irish single pot still whiskey.

Irish single pot still was once the most popular style of whiskey in the world. Sadly, through the ravages of war and prohibition, it fell to the wayside and saw its throne taken by Scotch.

Today, after nearly a century in the wilderness, single pot still whiskey is winning international recognition at some of the world’s biggest competitions – with Redbreast 12-Year-Old winning World's Best Whiskey at this year's International Wine & Spirits Challenge.

To celebrate the legacy and return to grace of one of the country’s crowning achievements, Great Irish Beverages has teamed up with some of Ireland’s top whiskey producers to roll out a very special festival - Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey Week, taking place from November 9th to 16th.

Great Irish Beverages director, Oisin Davis says, “Irish single pot still whiskeys are now geographically protected and finally back to being revered around the world.

“Our unique style of whiskey could be what wines are for Burgundy or what malt whiskies are for Scotland, but there is a lack of awareness around these remarkable spirits in Ireland. We want to address that, and what better way than with a festival!

“We have whiskey bars that also feature fantastic food, beer selections and cocktail menus. Showcasing these venues through Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey Week allows the public to broaden their spectrum of enjoyment of the whiskeys and learn more about what was, for a long time, the most popular and celebrated whiskey in the world.”

Venues can register for free on greatirishbeverages.com and must select an Irish pot still brand to work with plus a serve to best represent the venue.
