A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision just outside Cork city.

The young man, who was in his mid-20s, died after his motorbike was in collision with a van in the Upper Dublin Hill area on the city's northside on Tuesday evening.

The alarm was raised at around 6.20pm and gardaí, several units of Cork City Fire Brigade, and National Ambulance Service paramedics rushed to the scene between Blackpool and White's Cross.

But the man had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His remains have been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.

The road has been closed off to facilitate a full technical examination by garda forensic road traffic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, a woman, 80s, has died following a single-vehicle incident in Co Donegal.

The crash occurred around 1.30pm on Tuesday on the N56, Ballina Road, at Falcarragh.

The woman, who was driving the car and the only occupant, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

She was later pronounced dead.

The N56 at the Ballina Road in Falcarragh is currently closed.

Local diversions are in place and forensic collision investigators are carrying out an examination of the scene.

Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
