That Cork preparations for their season-deciding clash with Tipperary will take place away from SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh is not an issue, manager Pat Ryan has said.
Once Saturday's crowd of 41,670 had cleared off the pitch and out of the ground, attention turned to readying the venue for the Bruce Springsteen concert this Thursday, May 16.
As a result, Cork must ready themselves elsewhere for Sunday’s spin to Thurles.
“In fairness to the board, they were brilliant to us. We trained here an awful lot since the Waterford game, and it made a huge difference to our performance being able to come in here,” replied Pat Ryan when asked would the lack of access to Páirc Uí Chaoimh hold them back this week.
“It is a stadium pitch, and it is hard to get access to it at times. We have a fantastic facility here, and you can see what it's like when it's rocking. There has been a lot of criticism around Páirc Uí Chaoimh down through the years, but when you get games like that, it is just a pity we don't fill it enough.”
They filled it on Saturday evening, the banks bursting at the final whistle as Cork’s six-game wait for a championship win was washed away in a sea of delirious red.
“We know the type of fans that we have. Some of them can be harsh at times when you are not getting victories. But that is the joys when you take this job and you want to put on the Cork jersey.
“There is a lot of history that goes with it and there is a lot of prestige that goes with wearing the jersey, but I always say in any interviews I ever do is that the players represent it unbelievable every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday when they come down to us. I can't ask any more than they are giving us.
“It is a fantastic night.”
