Irishman Stanley Currie 'mugged of all his belongings' after flying to South Africa to meet woman

The 66-year-old had been left 'walking the streets' for a week

How to report a missing person

An Irishman who went missing in South Africa after travelling to meet a woman he met online was allegedly "mugged of all his belongings".

Stanley Currie, 66, from Cookstown in Co Tyrone, flew to Johannesburg from Dublin on December 28 to meet a woman who he had been chatting to online.

He booked a one-way ticket and hadn't been seen for over a week, leading to his family to launch an appeal for information on his whereabouts.

Stanley was found safe on Monday after walking the streets for a week without food or water.

A fundraising page set up by his family claimed that the pensioner had been mugged of his belongings, passport and money, and was currently being treated in hospital.

The appeal on the page read: "Get Stanley Currie home from South Africa after he was mugged of all his belongings, passport and money.

"We need to put Stanley up in a hotel until his emergency passport can be got and we can get him home as soon as possible.
