In news that will surprise precisely no one - but will still disappoint many - Greater Manchester has missed out on a Michelin star once again.
The region's restaurants were passed over by the guide's inspectors for another year, leaving Manchester city centre without one of the prestigious accolades for more than 40 years and the region without one for nearly a decade.
The last Greater Manchester restaurant to have a star was Juniper in Altrincham, which held it for 11 years until chef Paul Kitching left to relocate to Edinburgh in 2009.
The French was the first and only Manchester city centre establishment to be awarded a Michelin star, which it held from 1974 until 1977.
The Midland Hotel institution has been one of the city's highest hopes for a star again in recent years after Simon Rogan, of the Michelin-starred L'Enclume in Cumbria, was brought on board to overhaul its offering in 2013.
Rogan parted ways with the hotel in 2016 after failing to secure a star, leaving the kitchen in the very capable hands of head chef Adam Reid .
Despite making huge strides with his name above the door - earning a fourth AA rosette last week and being named the 13th best restaurant in the UK last month - Reid missed out on a star again this year.
Other hopefuls including Manchester House (now in the hands of Nathanial Tofan after Byrne's departure earlier this year) and The Rabbit (formerly The Rabbit in the Moon under Michael O'Hare, and now headed up by John Granaghan) also failed to persuade the Michelin inspectors.

Stockport's acclaimed Where the Light Gets In had also been considered to be a contender, having earned near flawless reviews from national critics in the last 18 months, but also missed out on a star.
Elsewhere in the north west, Mark Birchall earned his second Michelin star at Moor Hall in Aughton, West Lancashire, after winning his first just six months after opening last year.
Accepting the award, he said: "Without sounding arrogant I know what we do every day, I knew what we did from the start. And yes I'm surprised, I didn't expect this - I don't think you expect anything in life - but we've got an amazing team, business partners, families, everything.
"We serve our guests, our guests love what we do and that spurs us on, it really does."
Former Northcote chef Tom Parker was also awarded a star at his village pub The White Swan at Fence in Lancashire.
While Rogan may never have achieved a star in Manchester, he did win two new ones today: one each for Roganic in London and Rogan & Co in Cartmel, to add to his two at L'Enclume.
