Dublin woman Deborah Somorin appeared on Cutting Edge tonight to take part in a panel discussion, but her own story captured the hearts of the nation.

Deborah, now 25, was just 13 years old when she became homeless - and the following year, she fell pregnant.

She told Brendan O'Connor: "It was so scary, and I was in denial for at least the first six months of it.

"It was a terrifying experience and I was very lucky that the care home I was living in at the time, they have a focus on trying to make sure any of the young people there have as close to a normal upbringing as possible.

"And so they decided to convert the home, they changed the purpose of the home so I could stay there with my baby and it would help support me.

"When I was pregnant, they brought me shopping for baby clothes and baby books..."

She said the help of the care home made her feel less scared, but her pregnancy still hadn't really sank in.

"I didn't know anything about sex," she said.

"The sex education was I'd had was like a picture of a man and a woman holding hands and then there's a baby...

She added: "When [my son] was born the nurse had to close my jaw because I was like 'Aaah!'

"I don't think it really sank in that I was pregnant and there was an actual human growing inside me."

Deborah, who is now an Assistant Manager in PwC’s Assurance practice and has founded her own charity, Empower the Family CLG, said she took to motherhood straight away.

"I just became mama bear," she added.
