Family of Clodagh Hawe warn of fake fundraising page as they’d ‘never accept money on the back of our grief’
Clodagh's sister Jacqueline Connolly says she and her mum Mary Coll were made aware of the page - which GoFundMe say has now been suspended to 'prevent any further distress'
THE family of tragic Clodagh Hawe have urged the public NOT to donate to a fundraising page using Clodagh's name to raise money.
Clodagh's sister Jacqueline Connolly says she and her mum Mary Coll would "never accept money from anyone on the back of our grief".
Jacqueline tweeted earlier: "It has come to our attention that someone has set up a gofundme page in our name.
"Please ignore this as Mam and I would never in a million years accept money from anyone on the back of our grief."
Heartbroken Mary and Jacqueline appeared on a Claire Byrne Live special earlier this week demanding a new inquiry into the deaths of Clodagh and her three sons.
Alan Hawe killed his wife and their kids Liam, 14, Niall, 11, and six-year-old Ryan at their home in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, in August 2016.
And RTE presenter Byrne said a GoFundMe spokesperson has confirmed that the page has been suspended to "prevent any further distress for the family".
They added that they will investigate as to who established the page.
Mary and Jacqueline met with Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan yesterday - and are due to meet Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in the coming days.
Clodagh's family requested the meeting with the garda chief, along with a submission to change current legislation on unlawful deaths of family members.
Flanagan responded to both requests positively and hopes for action to be taken on both matters at "an early date".
He said: "The meeting was very moving and also very constructive.
"Mary and Jacqueline outlined their concerns and the horrific ordeal they have endured through the loss of their beloved family members.
"They showed immense dignity and courage in speaking to me about their concerns.
"One of the main requests of Mary and Jacqueline was that they would meet the Garda Commissioner.
"I was happy to be able to tell them that I have arranged for that to happen at an early date.
"The family also presented me with an initial submission for consideration on a range of legislative and other measures to prevent and address matters concerning the unlawful deaths of family members.
"I am putting arrangements in place at an early date for a study to be conducted on such cases."
