Dublin GAA to develop second centre of excellence after buying 23 acres of land that was formerly Hollystown Golf club

DUBLIN GAA plan to develop centres of excellence on both sides of the Liffey after purchasing 23 acres of land that was formerly Hollystown Golf club.

In 2017, Dublin bought the 35-acre Spawell site on the southside — and now they have acquired land in Dublin 15, close to the Meath border.

Hollystown Golf Club was purchased by developer Glenveagh Homes two years ago for a reported €15million.

The club closed in December last year, but efforts to build houses and apartments failed to get the green light from planning officials, and so they have now sold on.

A Sky Blues statement read: “Dublin GAA Board have acquired 23 acres of land at Hollystown, Dublin 15, including the former golf clubhouse, from Glenveagh Homes.

“The lands will be used as a training and playing facility for all Dublin teams and by Tyrrelstown GAA Club.

“The facilities will also be made available to the local community and schools.”

Dublin chairman Mick Seavers said: “This is a great day for Gaelic games in our county.

“Sporting facilities and green spaces are essential in our cities and this strategic development will bring huge benefits to Dublin GAA and to the local community.”

It was reported last year that Dublin are selling off nine acres of their 35-acre Spawell site.
