Shane Lowry welcome for pint at Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel after being refused entry in 2013

IRELAND’S poshest hotel has told Open champ Shane Lowry he’s welcome to pop in for a pint — after he was previously refused entrance on a night out.

Shane said he was turned away from Dublin’s Shelbourne while on a Christmas night out in 2013, tweeting they “don’t let normal people in”.

But last night a hotel spokeswoman told us: “All the team at The Shelbourne is delighted for Shane Lowry after his historic win at The Open.

“Of course Shane Lowry is welcome at The Shelbourne.”

The 32-year-old has pitched up at a string of pubs, including the Boar’s Head in Capel Street, since clinching his first Major title by an incredible six shots at Royal Portrush on Sunday.

He famously hit out at the top hotel after revealing on social media he had been refused entrance while enjoying a Christmas night out with friends in 2013.

He took to Twitter to say the hotel did not let “my mates and I in”.

Asked on Twitter why he was refused entrance to the hotel on St Stephen’s Green in the capital, Lowry replied that they “don’t let normal people in”.

The golfer included the hashtag ‘kip’ in his tweets.

In another tweet, the Co Offaly man said “for a start” they only had two pints and that they weren’t allowed in “because of what we looked like” even though “we looked well”.

One of his followers asked him if he had been doing the 12 pubs of Christmas. Shane responded: “No 12 pubs. Just a few quiet drinks.”

The Shelbourne Hotel is home to the famous Horseshoe Bar which was named after its shape, and has been a watering hole for generations of celebrities, sports stars and politicians alike.

Former US president Bill Clinton and Hollywood stars including Julia Roberts have all been welcomed to the hotel, while the Ireland rugby team use it as a base.
