Daughter of Brendan Grace reveals she’s ‘incredibly broken’ after being ‘forced to separate’ from legendary comic
A DAUGHTER of legendary comic Brendan Grace has revealed she is “incredibly broken” after she was “forced to separate” from him.
The father-of-four from Dublin died from lung cancer in Co Galway last July aged 68 — after he was diagnosed with pneumonia the previous month.
His daughter Mel posted the emotional message on social media along with a photograph of the pair shortly before his death.
She said: “These are the faces of a father and daughter trying to accept a cruel reality, forced to separate.
"No, I’m not OK most of the time. I’m incredibly broken. No amount of ‘He’d want you to be happy’ can change that right now. Jesus, this sucks so bad.”
The mum-of-two added: “It’s strange and sad entering a new year without someone you’ve loved so much, someone you’ve looked up to all of your life.
“Part of you wants to curl up. It’s a very mixed bag . . . for me but, what I do know is that I have my dad’s perspective when it comes to optimism and I know I’ll find a way to make 2020 my best year yet, like I do every year.”
Close family friend and well-known singer Sandy Kelly replied: “Mel, thinking of you all and keeping you in my prayers. I can’t begin to imagine your pain.
“There isn’t anything that can be said to fill that void, the huge loss of such a loving and wonderful husband, Dad and Grandad.”
