The Béal an Mhuirthead Tidal Pool is also located just north of Achill Island and is a beautiful place to go for a refreshing dip.
There are outdoor showers and pegs on the wall as it is a popular place for locals to go swimming. It was great to see portaloos, as well as an accessible portaloo that can be used if you are using the tidal pools.
There is a small amount of parking across from the tidal pools.
Dooega Beach

The beach is known for the peace and quiet it offers, as it is relatively less popular among tourists. We couldn’t not stop when we drove past and had to get out our van and have a walk on the beach in the sunshine.
Elly Bay Beach is perfect for those looking for opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. It is also a great place for fishing, with a nearby pier offering the perfect location for casting off.
The beach is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Ireland. Visitors can indulge in beautiful coastal trails, experience picturesque views of the mountains, or simply take in the stunning beauty that Elly Bay Beach offers.
White Cliffs of Ashleam

What to Pack for Your Trip to Achill Island
When it comes to packing for a trip to Ireland there is one item of clothing that you are going to need all year round: a waterproof. It rains on the west coast of Ireland on average over 200 days a year, meaning that during your trip to the Achill Island, you can expect rain at some point. Due to this, the number one item on your packing list is a good waterproof jacket.
Second to that, another item to not leave home without is a good pair of warm and, if possible, waterproof boots. A lot of the best sights on Achill Island require a bit of walking to reach them and the conditions underfoot can become very muddy. You do not want to ruin a good pair of white trainers so pack some sturdy boots.
You will definitely need a hat and gloves during the winter months as the wind chill can be bitter.
