Arcade1Up cabinets bring Street Fighter 2 and other classics to your home

There are a million ways to enjoy classic arcade video games from the 1980s and 1990s these days, but there’s still something special about playing them on an actual arcade cabinet. That’s what toy manufacturer Tastemakers is hoping to capitalize on with Arcade1Up, a new line of modern arcade machines for the home.

Five different Arcade1Up machines are set to be released this fall, each of which includes a set of four beloved games from the arcade era. For instance, the Centipede cabinet comes with Breakout, Millipede and Missile Command as well; the Asteroids Deluxe machine also comes with the original Asteroids, along with Major Havoc and Tempest. One of the other three cabinets will feature a non-Atari game: Capcom’s Street Fighter 2.

Tastemakers

As you can see in the image above, each machine is adorned with a marquee and side art for its featured game.

The Arcade1Up cabinets are 4 feet tall, and Tastemakers said in a news release that the machines will offer “the same gameplay as the originals, with same sounds, joysticks and buttons.” Note that the Centipede machine doesn’t feature a joystick, since none of the four games included in that cabinet are actually played with one. As for the display, the action will take place on a 17-inch LED screen. Buyers will have to put the machines together, although Tastemakers said the cabinets “can be easily assembled.”

Each Arcade1Up cabinet will sell for $399, which is on the low end of prices for arcade machines. We’ve asked Tastemakers for details on the hardware and software in the cabinets, and we’ll update this article with any information we receive.

Update: A representative for Tastemakers told Polygon that the cabinets will be running the games “through a custom emulator.”
